Bio

Professor Preeya Mohan is a Senior Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. As a graduate of the SALISES, St Augustine with a PhD in Economic Development Policy (high commendation), she is an applied economist skilled in the use of sophisticated econometric methods, and in data analysis more generally. She has conducted research on and is widely published in a range of topics focused around Caribbean growth and development, including diversification, natural disasters, extractive industries, firm competitiveness and innovation and entrepreneurship. Food Policy, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Ecological Economics, The World Economy, The Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance and Weather, Climate and Society are some of the international peer reviewed journals Dr Mohan has published in.

As a recipient of several research grants Dr Mohan has worked on various research projects funded by international bodies including the Inter-缅北禁地n Development Bank, the International Development 缅北禁地 Centre and the Social Sciences Humanities 缅北禁地 Council of Canada, and regional bodies including Compete Caribbean and The South 缅北禁地n Network on Applied Economics. Other scholarly activities include serving as a guest editor to the SALISES journal Social and Economic Studies.

As part of her teaching philosophy, Dr Mohan feels that it is part of her responsibility to give back to students what she has been taught. She teaches in the graduate course Specialized 缅北禁地 Methods to MPhil/PhD students. Given her background in applied Economics and Econometrics Dr Mohan supervises MPhil/PhD students in a diverse range of topics and research methodologies.
Given the importance of academic outreach and advocacy Dr Mohan has presented and participated in several policy debates in the region and internationally. She sees it as paramount to Caribbean growth and development to make public reasoned arguments that are supported by research and academic expertise. She has also served as a member of the steering committee of the Women鈥檚 Health Survey conducted by the Office of the Prime Minister and the Inter-缅北禁地n Development Bank.听听听听听听听

Dr Mohan has received several academic awards including the Inter-缅北禁地n Development Bank and the South 缅北禁地n Network on Applied Economics Young Economist Award, the University of the West Indies鈥� Eric Williams Memorial Scholarship (PhD studies), the De La Rue Scholarship (MSc studies) from the De La Rue Company and the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, and a Government National Scholarship (BSc studies).听听听
